On May 8th, the Municipality of Brezovo hosted a working meeting for the project "Mystical Danube: Green and Mystical Danube Storytelling Route – Transnational Valorization of Natural and Intangible Cultural Heritage for Socio-economic Development of Rural Areas in the Danube Region."
This event brought together various stakeholders, including municipal officials, students and teachers from local vocational high schools, and young people, including those from vulnerable social groups. The meeting was one in a series of initiatives focused on leveraging rich natural and intangible cultural heritage as a foundation for sustainable tourism and socio-economic development in rural areas.
Velizar Petrov, Executive Director of the Regional Development Agency with Business Support Centre for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (the Bulgarian project partner), presented the project. He outlined the initiative's main objectives and highlighted activities already underway.
Radost Ivanova, Executive Director of the Thracian Tourist Region Management Organization, shared successful Bulgarian and international practices for rural development. These examples emphasized community engagement, training, and the active participation of vulnerable groups, including young people with limited access to quality education and employment opportunities.
In Brezovo Municipality, work has already begun on identifying and analyzing natural resources and their associated intangible cultural heritage. The project's training sessions and discussions are fostering local capacity building, with a particular focus on engaging young people and developing local human potential.
Further events and initiatives are planned for the region, supported by the Regional Information Center – Plovdiv and the Thracian Tourist Region Management Organization.
The Mystical Danube project is funded by the INTERREG Danube Transnational Programme, with the Plovdiv Regional Administration acting as an associated partner from Bulgaria.
